Habitat III Informal Hearings with Stakeholders

On June 6th and 7th WICI participated in the Habitat III Informal Hearings with Stakeholders at the UN Headquarters in New York. There were panels on such issues as sustainable urban development, effective implementation, implementation at the local level, and partnership for the New Urban Agenda. Speaking on sustainable urban development, our executive director Kathryn Travers stressed the point that women need to be at the center of the New Urban Agenda, which she noted “must strive for action that will put women at the centre of making cities responsive, safe and inclusive for women and girls.” Kathryn highlighted the importance of supporting women’s asset building through tools and recognition of women as leaders in building resilience, as well as acknowledgement of gender differences across all aspects of sustainable development.
