WICI aims to analyze the different factors that contribute to unsafe cities and public spaces, and search for viable solutions to combat these issues. In order to promote inclusiveness and citizen safety while making good use of available space it is crucial to use both NGO efforts and government policy to focus on urban areas that require revitalization.

About the author: As most of my studies have focused on trends and practices in large urban areas, I chose to focus this piece on a smaller urban space, one that’s close to home. The strategies and practices towards urban revitalization that are currently taking place in Trenton, New Jersey are overlooked in scholarly literature and I am hoping to draw attention to them. The level of community involvement in identifying vacant lots in Trenton is unmatched and could set an important precedent for other places dealing with urban blight.
