N-Power Beneficiaries Write President Tinubu
N-Power Batch “C” participants, represented by their spokesperson Gbadebo Adesiyan, have conveyed their distress and hardship caused by the non-receipt of regular payments, impacting many unemployed Nigerian graduates in the program.
The Batch “C” beneficiaries of N-Power sent a letter to President Bola Tinubu, urgently seeking assistance as they have not received their monthly payments for the past eight months.
Adesiyan reported that from January to July of this year, no N-Power Batch “C” beneficiary has received any payment. As August, the eighth month, ends, this situation has left beneficiaries uncertain and despondent about their financial circumstances.
Adesiyan clarified that the delay in payment is due to the funds for the unpaid months not being approved or transferred to the National Social Investment Management System (NASIMS) account by the presidency.
The letter highlighted the ongoing issue’s gravity and urged the President to act swiftly to address the problem and restore the Nigerian people’s faith in the government’s commitment to their well-being.
From January to July 2023, beneficiaries have not received any stipends, resulting in widespread financial uncertainty and disappointment.
The situation worsened when an unreliable validation process was introduced. Many beneficiaries encountered difficulties validating their accounts, preventing them from accessing the stipends they depend on. Even those who completed the validation process have not received any payments.
As a result, beneficiaries struggle to meet their basic needs and support their families. The unpaid stipends were intended to provide financial assistance and contribute to the economy. However, the prolonged delay has exacerbated their already challenging circumstances, plunging them deeper into poverty and despair.
Big Plans for NPower and Other Government Help Programs
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, shared insights into President Bola Tinubu’s thoughts on NPower and other government assistance programs.
When asked if existing programs like NPower would continue or if new ones would be introduced, Dr. Edu explained:
“We aim to bring fresh ideas to these programs. However, the previous ones were quite effective. We plan to enhance certain aspects and address past shortcomings. We will also extend our support to more people. Our objective is to create more jobs and provide assistance to families living in remote areas of Nigeria, where aid is limited. We are working to reduce poverty and have initiated a fund to provide support. Additionally, we will secure more resources to assist people in Nigeria.”
