The head of Nigeria’s National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engineer Bisoye Coker-Odusote, urged citizens not to succumb to the temptation of using unofficial channels or bribing officials to speed up the process of registering or altering details for the National Identification Number (NIN).
Making use of such shortcuts, she warned, is not only against the law but also undermines the reliability of the entire system.
Coker-Odusote made this announcement recently, emphasizing the necessity for individuals to follow the appropriate steps put in place by the NIMC.
She emphasized that the commission is deeply committed to facilitating a smooth and lawful experience throughout the registration procedure.
“We are tasked with upholding the principles of transparency and legitimacy in the NIN amendment process, as well as defending the rights of every citizen in Nigeria,” she noted.
She went further to encourage everyone in the country to stand against any forms of bribery and corruption, highlighting that these acts of dishonesty are not in line with the federal government’s ongoing efforts to eradicate corruption.
She also reminded the populace that the commission has no room for corrupt practices and maintains a steadfast commitment to high moral and ethical standards in all its dealings.
Coker-Odusote appealed to the public to be vigilant and to report any form of misconduct they may encounter during their interaction with the NIN process.
She assured that the commission takes these reports seriously, promising that every complaint sent to their official email – complaints@nimc.gov.ng – would receive due attention.
She affirmed the commission’s dedication to safeguarding the NIN system’s security and credibility, always keeping the best interests of the Nigerian population at heart.
Through collective effort and vigilance, she believes, they can ensure a transparent and efficient process that serves the nation rightly
