NPC Recruitment Closing Date
Ezeoke reveals that the deadline for applying has been postponed till 28th December to give more individuals a chance to participate. Despite the initial announcement of the applicant tracking system shutting down on 10th December, the board has decided to extend the deadline.
He emphasized that the training was imperative for facilitators as they would be imparting the knowledge to supervisors and enumerators on the state level. The objectives of the training, Ezeoke highlighted, include imparting the definitions and concepts related to the census exercise, and equipping the second-level trainers for a standardized census training session.
This training will offer a clear roadmap for field enumeration processes, in-depth instructions for the usage of census data collecting tools and apps, and first-hand guidance for field operations. Ezeoke says that the training is designed to enhance the technical and managerial skills and abilities of the participants, so they can impart the same to other field functionaries, ensuring the success of the census.
Dr. Joachim Ulasi, the Director of the NPC in Anambra, stated that a total of 252 individuals are participating in the exercise, with 227 being trainees and the rest being facilitators and Zonal Coordinators.

NPC Postpones National Census Date under New Government Administration
The National Population Commission has made a surprising announcement, revealing a delay in setting the new date for the National Census. The determination of this date now rests with the newly inaugurated government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The NPC assumes a critical role in securing resources for the upcoming 2023 population and housing census in Nigeria. Despite the postponement, the commission assures the public of their commitment to transparency and will provide updates on the future course of action. Notably, the NPC has completed preparatory tasks, including enumeration area demarcation, pre-tests and trial census, staff recruitment and training, procurement of Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), establishment of ICT infrastructure, and logistics support, as well as advocacy and publicity activities.
NPC’s Responsibility and Role in National Census
The NPC recognizes its primary responsibility of ensuring the security of all resources required for the forthcoming 2023 population and housing census in Nigeria. With the announcement of a delay in setting the new census date, the commission’s representative stated that their role extends beyond determining the date. The NPC is actively working to safeguard the necessary resources for a successful census exercise.
In light of the postponement, the NPC is committed to keeping the public well-informed about the next steps in this process. The representative emphasized the significance of transparency and assured the public that updates would be shared promptly following the former President’s decision to postpone the census.
Preparatory Steps for the Census
Despite the delay in finalizing the census date, the NPC has diligently completed several preparatory activities. Mr. Okereke, the NPC representative, provided a comprehensive list of accomplished tasks:
- Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD): The commission has successfully demarcated the enumeration areas, establishing clear boundaries for data collection.
- Conduct of Pre-tests and Trial Census: Pre-testing and trial census activities have been conducted to fine-tune the data collection process and identify any potential challenges or areas for improvement.
- Recruitment of Staff and Training: The NPC has recruited staff for the census and provided necessary training to equip them with the required skills and knowledge.
- Procurement and Configuration of PDAs: Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) have been procured and configured to facilitate efficient data collection during the census.
- Establishment of ICT Infrastructures and Logistics Support: The NPC has set up the necessary ICT infrastructures and logistics support systems to ensure smooth operations during the census.
- Advocacy and Publicity Activities: Extensive advocacy and publicity campaigns have been conducted to raise awareness about the importance of the census and encourage public participation.
