Getting Ready for NYSC Camp
Are you a future Nigerian youth corps member (NYSC) member? NYSC camp is an exciting and important part of your service year. This guide will help you prepare for a smooth registration process and a memorable camp experience.
What to Expect at Camp
- Orientation: NYSC camp is a three-week orientation program where you’ll participate in drills, learn valuable skills, experience cultural events, and bond with fellow corps members.
- Early Start: Arrive early at camp to allow extra time for registration and settling in.
Registration Essentials
- Final Year ID Card (Original & 2 Photocopies): Get this official ID from your school. Department IDs are not accepted.
- Statement of Result (Original & 4 Photocopies): This document (B.Sc. or HND) proves your graduation. Foreign students bring your certificates. Polytechnic graduates bring both ND and HND results.
- Medical Students: If you’re a medical professional (doctor, pharmacist), bring proof of completing your training and a certificate from the relevant Nigerian board.
- NYSC Call-up Letter (Original & 4 Photocopies): This crucial document arrives after online registration. Don’t laminate it.
- NYSC Green Card (Original & 4 Photocopies): Print this after online registration and avoid laminating it. Both Call-up Letter and Green Card need color printing.
- Recent Passport Photos (8 Copies): White or light background is required.
- Medical Fitness Certificate (2 Copies): Obtain this from a government hospital or army clinic in Nigeria.
- Foreign-trained PCMs: Bring all documents submitted during online registration.
Simple Guide to NYSC Camp Registration
- Step 1: Camp Gate
- Show your medical fitness certificate.
- Take a mandatory COVID-19 test by NCDC (entry depends on a negative result).
- Keep the test slip.
- Your bags will be checked manually and electronically for prohibited items.

- Find your designated hostel and collect a mattress.
- Choose your bed space.
- Head to the registration unit with these documents:
- Gate slip
- Original call-up letter

- Find the assigned bank and fill out the account opening form.

Packing Smart for NYSC Camp
Here are some suggestions to make your camp stay comfortable:
- Footwear: White tennis shoes (preferably cork) and rubber slip-on shoes.
- Hygiene Essentials: Antiseptics, toiletries, towels.
- Bedding: Sheets, pillowcases, pillows, blankets or wrappers.
- Dining: A food flask, cup, spoon, and dishwashing soap.

- Tech: Flashlight/chargeable lamp, phone charger, and power bank.
- Miscellaneous: Money/ATM card, white T-shirt, mosquito net (treated), underclothes, a small waist bag, white shorts and socks, locks.
Important Note: Laptops, hair clippers, TVs, and sharp objects are strictly prohibited. These will be held at the gate and returned at the end of camp. The camp shop usually sells forgotten essentials, so avoid overpacking.
