President Tinubu Orders Reassessment of N8,000 Financial Aid Plan
In recent news, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered a reassessment of the proposed N8,000 financial aid for 12 million households.
This action is in response to the removal of fuel subsidy, aiming to reduce its impact.
According to VoiceofNigeria, this news was revealed by Dele Alake, the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy.
In a statement, Alake mentioned that President Tinubu is committed to maintaining open communication with Nigerians, who elected him into office.
Tinubu’s Pledge to Nigerians
Tinubu assured Nigerians that their welfare and security are his administration’s top priorities under his government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The recent surge in news and social media platforms has sparked discussions about the government’s plan to provide conditional cash transfers to households most impacted by the removal of the petrol subsidy.
Reports have stated that the government is considering providing N8,000 monthly for six months to 12 million of the poorest households.
This measure is designed as a palliative to alleviate the discomfort brought about by the subsidy removal.
Addressing Misconceptions
Several misunderstandings have been attached to the program by critics.
The government, however, subscribes to the belief that when there’s a prohibition, there must be provision.
In light of the subsidy’s removal, a broad range of reliefs has been put in place to assist Nigerians.
While the cash program is not the only part of President Tinubu’s relief package, he has demonstrated his commitment to listening to the people by giving the following directives:
- The N8,000 conditional cash transfer plan aimed at providing relief to the most vulnerable households must be reassessed immediately. This decision comes in response to the concerns raised by Nigerians against it.
- The entire range of the government’s relief package should be unveiled to Nigerians.
- Fertilizers and grains must be immediately released to an estimated 50 million farmers and households across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Ensuring Judicious Use of Funds
President Tinubu reassured Nigerians that the N500 billion approved by the parliament to ease the effects of the subsidy’s termination will be used wisely.
He stressed that the beneficiaries of these reliefs would be Nigerians, regardless of their ethnic, religious, or political affiliations.
President Tinubu affirmed his unwavering commitment to prioritize the wellbeing of Nigerians.
He reminded the public of his previous decisions to address concerns from the business community about burdensome taxes.
He cited the signing of four Executive Orders to cancel some classes of taxes and suspend the implementation dates of others as evidence of this commitment.
Furthermore, he has established a Tax Reform/Fiscal Policy Committee to propose recommendations for a comprehensive fiscal environment for the country and eliminate barriers to business.
In conclusion, Alake reassured Nigerians that President Tinubu would continue to listen to the citizens’ views.
He emphasized that the President believes that the government exists to cater for the people’s interests, which he has clearly demonstrated through his actions.
