Women in Cities International facilitated a multilingual workshop ( English, French, Spanish) during the Global Social Economy Forum (GSEF) on the theme of the alliance between local governments and social economy actors to develop sustainable cities! The workshop hosted about sixty participants on the issue of gender equality as an essential condition for the development of the social and solidarity economy (SSE). In collaboration with other local and international organizations, WICI identified challenges and recommendations to ensure a fair representation of women in decision-making processes and to promote gender-mainstreaming in SSE in order to support an inclusive urban development. Among the obstacles identified, the lack of gender-specific data was repeatedly emphasized while participants reiterated the importance of women’s capacity-building at an individual and institutional level.
